The word salendro (or slendro) refers to a 5-note scale used in Indonesian Gamelan music. Gamelan ensembles produce some of the most beautiful & intriguing music in the world. Every indonesian village has its own ensemble, and every ensemble, a unique sound.
Gamelan instruments have survived for centuries, despite many shifts in style and repertoire. When new sounds are sought, the metallic gongs are melted and recast as new.
